This board is a complete redesign of the opto PCB used on the deadworld assembly of the Judge Dredd pinball machine.

This board has two optical switches that help locate the position of the ball pockets on the deadworld assembly. The central shaft on the assembly has a plastic disc with two slots cut in it. As these slots pass through the two optical switches, the game knows when to stop the deadworld assembly to unload a ball from the globe ring.

The original optical switches are so close together that the plastic disc on the deadworld shaft can rub and cause plastic dust to form on the optical switches.

The re-designed opto board uses wide-slot optical switches to eliminate this problem. It also includes visual indicator LEDs to help in the diagnostics and setup of the deadworld assembly!

Wide-slot optical switches eliminates any rubbing of the plastic interrupter disc. Larger traces and pads for better reliability and longevity. Visual status LEDs have been added so that the two optical switches can be easily checked. They also help in the precise positioning of the deadworld assembly.
